I’ve heard the saying that “Millennials are lazy.” When millennials are some of the hardest working people I’ve always encountered. We are the generation of go-getters, the entrepreneurs, the woke age. And while all that is great and dandy, sometimes I feel like as millennials, we’re so busy trying to get it or we’re comparing our lives to other people because of social media. We lose the concept of time. We forget what it means to appreciate life and the important people in it. Sometimes, I think we’re so concerned about getting the work done right this moment that we’re allowing some of the best years of our lives to pass us by.
In 2017, I lost someone very close to me. I watched this person die in front of me, and he was one of the hardest working people I knew. He enjoyed his life to the fullest as much as he worked his ass off. He was the first one to book a flight to explore the world. This year, I’ve also lost someone very close to my heart, and this time around, all I could do was sit still and take a moment to realize that life waits for no one. Yes, go out there and achieve your goals. Be about your business, but please make sure that you’re living your life for you. Make sure you’re taking the time you need to re-energize and spend time with your family and friends.
This year, my goal is to not only work on my brand, Dayana’s Corner, but to also be present in every moment. There are times that I need to be silent, so I can hear what the universe is trying to tell me and teach me, about myself and those around me. It’s in those moments I find clarity and gratitude for who I am and how far I’ve come. It’s in those precious moments that I remember the ones I’ve lost and why it’s so important to focus on the love active in my life. Rather than chasing people or a reality that doesn’t belong to me. I choose to be great because I say so, not for anyone else, but for me. Today is the youngest I’ll ever be, so I need to make sure while I’m checking things off my to-do list that I’m enjoying life as well.
To everyone reading this remember that your journey is yours. No one can take away what is destined for you. Did y’all catch that? If something is meant for you, the universe will deliver. I’m not saying, sit back and do nothing, but now and then, step away from your desk to kick back and smell the roses. Take that vacation, call an old friend, visit some family because seriously, life can slip away at any moment. The world is yours, so start acting like it!
